The Illinois Optometric Association exists to protect, promote, and advance the profession of Optometry by providing exemplary resources and support towards serving and enhancing quality patient care.
The vision of the Illinois Optometric Association is to be the primary advocate for the advancement of optometry through education, legislation, public service, and membership development by providing a unified voice for all optometrists to ensure the practice of Optometry at the highest level.
The IOA is committed to educating the public about the importance of proper eyecare. As you know, healthy eyes and good vision play a critical role in how children not only learn, but learn to see. To encourage early examinations, the IOA continuesto promote comprehensive eye exams by an optometrist before entering school to ensure every child reaches their full growth potential. The impact on our young children can be tremendous… no child should fail to see. In conjunction with Clear Channel Outdoor Billboards, the IOA is able to promote early exams in 16 suburban Chicago locations. Please click here to view photos and locations of the billboard.
Did you know that under a lesser known provision in the Affordable Care Act (ACA), most optometrists need to provide translation and interpreting services for patients with limited English proficiency (LEP) to increase healthcare access for all?
There are many federal regulations that mandate language services for LEP individuals. The ACA goes further by extending previous mandates and directly requiring insurers and providers to offer written translation and interpreting services for qualifying LEP language groups. However, requirements may differ depending on the size of your practice. Click here for more details.
Given the current political conditions and all of the transitions happening in healthcare, stay tuned for updates on this requirement and others as the impact, the implementation, and the future of the Affordable Care Act continues to evolve.
IOA recently sent out a short survey during the holiday season so if you didn't get a chance to fill it out yet please take a few minutes to do so by clicking here. Your feedback will be very helpful in leading the IOA in the right direction to maximize your membership. Your opinions are very important to all of us at IOA.
Also we are always looking for members to assist us in the various IOA committees so please look into joining a committee. Or ask a fellow IOA member to join you on a committee if you are currently serving on one already.
We are looking forward to having another great year for optometry in Illinois!
The IOA office has received several calls from home-bound patients looking for ODs who will do an in-home visit. Right now, the amount of ODs in our database who offer this service is limited. If you are willing to perform home visits, please login to your profile and update the Home Visits field to "Yes".
We want your opinion!
The IOA Membership, Communications, and Public Health Committees have organized a survey to assess what our members think about member benefits, IOA education, and what we could do to improve. We value your input and it will be taken into account as we plan future events. Click here to begin the survey.
