About the IOA

The voice of optometry

The Illinois Optometric Association (IOA) is the "Voice of Optometry" in Illinois. For over a century, the IOA, voluntary association of Illinois optometrists, has been dedicated to making optometry a stronger, better, more visible profession. It has worked diligently on all fronts to ensure that those who have earned the title of doctor of optometry have the opportunity to practice their profession to the fullest extent possible. Organized optometry ensures a voice in legislation that affects the profession and our ability to care for our patients to the fullest extent of our training and licensure.

Today, thousands of successful optometrists work in all types of health care environments in Illinois. Many have found success in Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs), hospitals, clinics, educational institutions, commercial and private practice ... and much of this success is the result of the efforts of the organization that represents Optometry ... the Illinois Optometric Association.

The Illinois Optometric Association exists to protect, promote, and advance the profession of Optometry by providing exemplary resources and support towards serving and enhancing quality patient care.

The vision of the Illinois Optometric Association is to be the primary advocate for the advancement of optometry through education, legislation, public service, and membership development by providing a unified voice for all optometrists to ensure the practice of Optometry at the highest level.
